Effects of the BCG and PPD on the Reticuloendothelial Function of the Rats

Abstract
This experiment was performed to evaluate the effects of BCG and PPD on the function of reticuloendothelial system. BCG and PPD was administered into the rat tail ivein with dosage of 0.1ml and 0.2ml per 100gm of body weight, respectively. The phagocytic activity of the reticuloendothelial system was evaluated four weeks after administration by the Biozzis carbon clearance method and pathological examination was also made. The results obtained were as follows.
1. Tuberculous granulomatous inflamation was observed in the lungs, spleen, and lymph nodes of the rats four weeks after BCG administration.
2. Phagocytic activity of the reticuloendothelial system was markedly elevated after BCG administration, which was more elevated in the large doses of BCG administered rats.
3. In the PPD administered rats, the phagocvtic activity of reticuloendothelial system was slightly elevated than that of the rats after BCG administration.
